Thank you for choosing to experience your next medical service trip with iHelp Globally!
iHelp Globally strives to make each session a memorable journey for all involved: Students, their mentors, and of course each and every patient that receives the compassion and time from all of our volunteers.
IHG coordinators recruit participants and formulate a plan of action in order to cater to the needs of each volunteer. Should you have an interest in surveying communities for issues other than the ones that are directly related to our medical clinic, please inform your IHG coordinator. IHG strives to create a lasting effect on the population we serve by continuing to survey the communities for needs that are currently not being met. Past and current IHG volunteers strongly believe in the power of education and thus self-sustainability. By holding public seminars, the communities we serve become armed with techniques of illness prevention. Seminars, medical/social services, and medications provided by IHG are always free of charge.
As you may already be aware, IHG reaches out to universities/college communities in order to enable students to experience their chosen field at the grass roots level. Having been a student yourself, you most certainly can appreciate the value of having a mentor. We are so thankful for your generosity and your willingness to not only help communities abroad, but to also reach out to the upcoming healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, dentists, physical therapist, pharmacists, etc.) in order to further fuel their passion for the healthcare field. We depend on you as together we will form friendships that last a lifetime.
Our medical mission teams consist of U.S. licensed medical volunteers, medical professionals licensed in the host country, IHG coordinator(s), translators, students (both undergraduate and graduate level), & security personnel.
In order to familiarize yourself with a typical IHG experience, please refer to the itinerary. As listed in the itinerary, we will be holding team meetings/classes in order to better prepare the students for their first patient. A typical IHG session consists of students of various levels of clinical skills; however, each student is at least 18 years of age and pursuing at least a B.S. degree (biology, chemistry, neurobiology, physiology, child development, nursing, nutrition, etc). You will find that some students are very savvy with taking vitals signs and obtaining medical histories, while others need a little help. Some students are certified as CNA, LVN, and EMT... while others simply have observation or shadowing experience.
During the team meetings, IHG coordinators and licensed volunteers will speak about the general layout of the clinic, and discuss ailments typically found in the region. Additionally, students will practice obtaining vital signs, and role-play in order to gain confidence. Spanish workshops will be held in order to practice typical Spanish phrases (both conversational and clinical).
iHelp Globally stands out in many different ways -- One such way is by offering the highest mentor-to-student ratio. On average, an iHelp Globally team consists of 1 mentor per 2-3 students. Students are supervised at all times by licensed providers.
